Emily McDonald, LPC

Emily McDonald is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and her master’s degree from Georgia State University. Emily’s first clinical experience began with her practicum and internship at a domestic violence and sexual assault community resource center. She then began her career in private practice in the metro Atlanta area.

There is a special place in Emily’s heart for helping people who have been affected by difficult and stressful life events. Those that work with Emily have been impacted by adversity, loss, grief, and trauma. She helps them find ways to manage anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, and stress and navigate emotional challenges from childhood/adolescence and life transitions. Many people try to bury or forget their painful memories, yet Emily believes that by sharing these stories, one can open the door to empowerment and healing. Through the process of psychotherapy, Emily seeks to create a genuine and secure bond, a space of respect, acceptance, and safety for her clients. In this environment, one can start the work of examining the ways in which they have struggled in order to better understand their own experience and begin to promote change in their life.

Emily acknowledges that one style of therapy does not work for everyone; therefore, she incorporates different methodologies and approaches to best serve her clients. Some of these may be rooted in cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, dialectical-behavioral, strengths-based, and attachment theories. Emily is a LGBTQIA+ affirming psychotherapist and welcomes clients of all identities and backgrounds.

Outside of the office, Emily enjoys attending live music events, going for runs, watching the latest A24 film, and spending time with her loved ones when possible.
